Just Finished Watching :: ULTRAMARINES

For those of you, not familiar with Games-workshop’s WARHAMMER 40K table-top game, well… I don’t care, you shouldn’t be reading this.

So… Space Marines , Ultramarines at that. These guys :
The Emperor protects us, but having a loaded bolter never hurt either.
ULTRAMARINES is an animated movie, based on the above mentioned table-top game that has spawned a series of  PnP RPGs and PC Games and now tries the movie treatment. It plays out like a standard space marine mission which will not further describe in order not to spoil it for you.
A definite must see for all those who enjoy any part of the series and a definite must-not see if you’ve never bothered with the series before.

The movie starts smoothly and even if the CGI reminds me of the early 00s (is that how you call 2000-2005?) it surely delivers. With a fluent flow of epic quotes, the apparent dogmatism of the space marines and orchestrated music it quickly immerses you to the 40K universe. While the Ultramarine newbie squad readies itself for battle with the ecclesiarchic faithfulness and devotion that can only match a charter of monks (genetically modified, space battle monks, that is the Ultramarines) I found myself there, amongst them, lamenting the loss of the emperor millennia ago, and cleansing my spirit for battle sight… even though I’m a huge blood angels fan boy.

Go Blood Angels, Go.

Maybe I overstated things a bit, but for me, this is a definite must see, that encouraged me, to revisit my blog after ½ year, just to write this review and if I had to make one complaint about this movie is its length, it’s too short, with that kind of length I expect them to make another movie, or as we say in 4chan, MOAR.
Until that day…

...May the Emperor protect .

Animated Movie Score:
Graphics: 3/5
Storyline: 5/5
Action Scenes (Could use some more action)
Boobs: 0/5 (no women... need more battle sisters)
Blood: 5/5 (nice crimson splotch)
Sound (effects): 4/5 (nice bolter fire)
Sound (music): 5/5 (EPIC)
Sound (overall): 4/5

Tales of Slowly Dying Blogs

"Picture related - kind of-"

It's five months since our last post here. It certainly wouldn't be the first nor the last blog to die because of inactivity, but that wasn't exactly the plan...

Decadence on Christmas

No complains so far. Good food, lots of drinks, good -and mostly technologically impaired- company. I barely manage to read my news feeds the last couple of days, but still I did spot that the long awaited combat demo for Age of Decadence finally got released.

3D Dot Game Heroes :: A Geekgasm

The year has passed. 2K+9 was a year to be remembered for it’s game releases, with titles such as Dragon age: origins, Modern Warfare 2, Resident Evil 5, WH40K Dawn of War II, STALKER prypiat, Plants vs. Zombies, Red Faction: Guerilla, Border Lands, Assassins Creed II and many more, that I don’t have the energy to mention. Even movie-wise, a year closing with Cameron’s Avatar a 3D adventure, that sets a milestone on the use of CGI in movies, as it actually filmed in what seems to be a map editor. So it stands, that in the coming 2010, game developers will have a hard time advancing the gaming standards even further.

“BTW Merry Christmas”

PC Graphics will continue to advance, some game will have plots, others won't, some games will suck *cough* Rogue Warrior * cough*, while others will suck even harder *cough* oh no wait, its Rogue Warrior again *cough*, other games will play like movies and others will just be mindless shooters, add few indie hits here and there and all the world’s gamers can sleep happily.

I didn’t have anything left to expect for the Q4 of 2009, except maybe the English release of STALKER which was delayed for Q1 2010, and then one day…

 “...This Happened”

This being what seems as the most promising game of 2010 and the sole reason to own a Play station III (except maybe for over-compensating). Welcome to Dotnia (Pixels/Dots, get it ?), a 3D city made entirely out of  Pixel Art. More a visual sensation / sexsation(?) / experience, the game unfolds in a pixel art orgy of colors, old school games references and geek wet dreams. The game that will attract, all gay Zelda fanfic fans everywhere, follows a linear adventure,  of a pixilated hero through dungeons, fields and most probably princesses, without playing i'll have to give it a “must play” if only for the epilepsy inducing experience.

“Gilgamesh owning Zelda style ?”

Exodus (Reindeer or not)

"That's what happens when you mess up your prayers to the Light..."

Holidays are almost here, and I'm already packed for a -couple of weeks long- trip to my hometown, which will be all about spending time with friends and family, studying, and working on the "new" blog. Hopefully, some time around January everything will be done, uploaded and ready to go, though it kind of depends on how much time I'll be able to spend in front of a computer these days. Not much I suspect.

Let's party like it's 1887

"Couldn't find any cool 1887 screens... Fail..."

Seems the latest patch for Modern Warfare 2 really "fixed" the Model 1887 akimbo, since after playing plenty of rounds today I didn't see anyone running around with them. What, they're not cool anymore?

You've been convicted

"No, we are not dressed like that cause we like it..."

After watching the latest trailer of Splinter Cell: Conviction, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, which showcases the co-op campaign of the title (a prequel to the rest of the game), I got a little bit excited. Conviction wasn't really high on my watch list, if even it was on it. I've played the first three games, and even though I'm a sucker for the "stealth genre", they felt boring, to say the least. It's the console curse, I'm sure. How many games have been spoiled because of so many reasons(as oversimplified mechanics, bad ports etc) so they could be released on multiple platforms?

The LED warrior and the winter Goddess

It seems that plenty of cities in the US have started switching to LED traffic lights for some time now, though noone anticipated that the LED won't produce enough heat to melt snow, resulting on obscured traffic lights, something that has already caused dozens of accidents, according to Yahoo! News.

Cause for excitement

"I should have taken that flying class"

I have to admit I barely played Just Cause, and it didn't really won me. Maybe it was just my distaste for another tropical island  setting, or I was just having more fun with something else back then, I can't really say. Just Cause 2 though, looks quite promising. From what I've seen so far, Just Cause 2 is all about explosions, stunts and completely non realist physics. How could this not be good?
